Keep Moving: Faithfulness Can Look DifferentWhat I'm Learning About Movement in My 50s
When I first started 10 Minutes of Faithfulness, my goal was simple: walk for ten minutes.
That's it.
I wasn't trying to become an athlete. I just knew I needed to start moving again.
For a while, walking was my thing. Some days I walked around my office building. Other days I walked through the neighborhood with my husband and our pup. Ten minutes sometimes became fifteen, twenty, or even more.
Then my daughter-in-law sent me a 10-minute Tai Chi workout.
I tried it.
And I loved it!
I especially loved how I could feel my body working and strengthening. It made me realize that maybe 10 Minutes of Faithfulness was never supposed to be only about walking.
Maybe the bigger lesson was simply:
Keep moving.
As a woman in my 50s, I'm becoming more aware that I don't just want to lose weight. I want to feel strong. I want to work on my core. I want to maintain my balance and mobility. And most of all, I want to stay committed to taking care of myself.
I've missed some days.
I've had days when I walked.
I've had days when I did Tai Chi.
And I've had days when I rested.
I'm learning not to let one missed day convince me that I've failed.
I'm also learning that movement doesn't have to look the same every day.
Some days faithfulness looks like putting on my shoes and taking a walk.
Some days it's ten minutes of Tai Chi.
I'm looking forward to adding some resistance exercises to help me get stronger.
And sometimes faithfulness means listening to my body and resting.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is to keep coming back.
Something else has changed along the way.
When I started this journey, weight loss was one of the things on my mind. But somewhere along the way, I started paying attention to something else:
How good it feels to move my body.
That has been such a gift.
So, to the woman in her 50s—or any woman who feels like she needs to "get herself together" before she can start—can I encourage you?
Don't wait until you can do thirty minutes.
Don't wait until you join a gym.
Don't wait until Monday.
Start where you are.
Walk around the block.
Stretch.
Dance in your living room.
Try a gentle exercise you enjoy.
Give yourself ten minutes.
Then tomorrow, give yourself another opportunity to move.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” — Acts 17:28
I'm still learning.
I'm still moving.
I'm still missing a day here and there.
But I'm also still coming back.
And that, for me, is what 10 Minutes of Faithfulness is all about.
Reflection
What kind of movement makes you feel good?
Maybe your next step isn't doing more.
Maybe it's finding something you enjoy enough to keep doing.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the bodies You've given us. Help us care for ourselves with gratitude rather than criticism. Give us wisdom to know when to move, when to strengthen, and when to rest. Help us remember that small, faithful choices matter.
Give us the grace to keep showing up, even when we haven't been perfect.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Keep moving. Get stronger. Stay committed. ❤️
With love, Rochelle
