Faithfulness Isn't Perfection—It's Coming Back

When I started 10 Minutes of Faithfulness, I made myself a very simple promise: walk for at least ten minutes.

And for a while, I was doing great.

Ten minutes became fifteen. Some days seventeen, eighteen, even twenty-five minutes. I walked around my office, through my neighborhood, with my husband and sometimes with our dog.

I was showing up.

Then life happened.

There were busy days. There was a day when I wasn't feeling well. Then vacation came, and my husband and I slowed down, relaxed, spent time together, and enjoyed a break from our normal routine.

We were still walking, but it wasn't structured anymore.

And you know what?

That's okay.

I'm learning that faithfulness isn't the same thing as perfection.

Sometimes we think that once we miss a day—or a few days—we've failed. And that thinking can cause us to give up completely.

But God has been teaching me something different:

You can come back.

Today, September 1st, vacation is over. I put my shoes on and walked ten minutes around my office building.

Nothing spectacular happened.

I didn't walk farther because I'd missed days. I didn't punish myself or try to make up for lost time.

I simply started again.

And maybe someone reading this needs permission to do the same.

Maybe you've gotten away from prayer.

Maybe you haven't opened your Bible lately.

Maybe you stopped exercising.

Maybe that project has been sitting untouched.

Maybe you made a promise to yourself and somewhere along the way, life interrupted your plans.

Come back.

You don't have to fix everything today.

You don't have to make up for yesterday.

Just take the next faithful step.

The lesson I'm learning through 10 Minutes of Faithfulness is simple:

Faithfulness isn't never missing a day. Faithfulness is refusing to let a missed day become the end of the story.

“Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” — Proverbs 24:16

So today I'm starting September with my shoes back on.

Ten minutes.

One walk.

One faithful choice.

And tomorrow, by God's grace, I'll do it again.

Reflection

What is something you've gotten away from that you know it's time to return to?

Don't worry about how long you've been away.

Just come back. ❤️

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for new beginnings. Thank You that we don't have to be perfect to be faithful. Help us release the guilt of what we didn't do yesterday and give us strength to take the step You've placed before us today. When we get off track, remind us that we can always return to You and begin again.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

With love,

Rochelle
